Description : The White-rumped Shama is a long-tailed passerine whose male is quite different from the female (length 25 cm, weight 33 g, wing 9 cm, bill 2 cm, tarsus 2.6 cm, tail: 16 cm in male, female 12 cm). The male looks glossy black from above and rufous-orange from below. It has glossy blue-black head, mantle and wings, white rump and outer rectrices. Its central rectrices are elongated. Its throat, breast and rest of the lower body are rufous-orange. The female has shorter tail and looks brownish-grey from above and dull orange from below. Both sexes have dark brown irises, black bill, yellowish mouth and pale legs, feet and claws. It feeds on insects and their larvae mostly from the ground. It breeds in March-August.
