Description : Adult males can grow up to 6-7 meters (20-23 feet) in length, while females are typically smaller, reaching lengths of up to 3 meters (10 feet). They can weigh up to 1,000 kg (2,200 pounds). They are found in coastal areas, rivers, and wetlands throughout Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Pacific islands.
They have a broad, heavy-set body with tough, scaly skin that is typically gray or brown in color. Their long, powerful tail helps them swim and maneuver in the water. They are apex predators and eat a variety of prey, including fish, birds, reptiles, and mammals, including humans. They are known for their aggression and have been known to attack and kill humans who enter their territory.
They are oviparous and lay eggs in nests made of vegetation, which are then guarded by the female. They are listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN, although some populations are threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
