Description : The Brown-backed Needletail is a large blackish-brown swift with needles protruding from the tail and long-pointed, bow-shaped wings (adult bird length approximately 23 cm, wing 19.5 cm, bill 1.5 cm, tarsus 1.7 cm, tail 5.7 cm). It looks blackish-brown from above and dark brown from below. It feeds on flying insects, especially beetles, bugs, grasshoppers, ants and bees. It breeds in February-April.
